It’s been three months since we went out on the bikes. Getting old, and being retired, means you can choose your biking days, and we’ve kind of joined the league of fair weather bikers. It’s not only cold/wet weather that’s off-putting but the state the track to our house gets into – populated with pot-holes and slick with mud. Not Ducati friendly.
So I’ve been glued to the PC this winter, writing away happily; published another e-book, called The Stowaways, created an Author blog and prepared my first book for publishing in paperback! Exciting stuff. But the sun is out and the bike (Denzo) has been calling, and today the writer became the biker.
There is nothing like it. Fuel-injected Ducati = adrenalin injected Jude! On the bike I transform into something else, something a bit wild!
Dry winding Dordogne roads, hardly any traffic, the growl of the 992 cc’s. Breeze through your helmet, freedom, speed, living every second. I’m sure biking is a form of meditation!
But as you can see I’m now back at my desk, writing a blog post – until Denzo calls from the garage again.

Wow! Denzo is one slick-looking bike! I have a motorcycle license too – I got it 35 years ago because I drove a blue Honda Passport Scooter with a nice white basket in front – it had a whopping 70cc engine! Maybe I should upgrade now – at the same time I take scuba lessons with a dry suit! haha

Absolutely Michael! It’s never too late, I got my bike licence when I was 51. I also had a scooter – a Vespa, back in the 60’s. Go on … you can do it! 🙂

Haha – my wife would be thrilled to have hubby biking out into the wild blue yonder – NOT. But you must have taken a spill or two during all your riding eh?

Only once, trying to negotiate the hairpin bend on the track up to our house. I was going too slowly and dropped the bike! Other than that just two nasty near squeaks. Not bad for 18 years biking! I have a great in-built self-preservation system 😎. So what do you do to get your blood racing Michael? 😌😁

Wow! 18 years! I’m impressed! Although that must seem tame compared to your high-flying hubby. It’s so cool that you two are so adventurous and daring. We’ve been much less adventurous – some rock climbing, hiking, camping, kayaking and raising 5 kids (who all still seem like us) What do I do to get my blood racing? I take photos and like to amuse folks! haha –

Thanks Pete, it really is a passion. Good thing about riding over here is lack of traffic, and the French drivers are very biker-aware. And I have a huge sense of self-preservation too!

Stephen Covey would say that you were sharpening your saw….
So glad you had a disconnect so that you could reconnect and align!
This rolled through my reading field today, and I thought of you…

Hey Lisa, I don’t know how I missed this reply of yours! I read a Stephen Covey book years ago and seem to have forgotten the thread of it. (The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People). I used to read a lot of popular psychology and self-help books. I find psychology fascinating.
Thanks for that link it looks jolly interesting!
Look after those wellies! 🙂

Great looking bike there! I can imagine the adrenalin racing. Glad you have the chance to enjoy yourself like that. Until recently I was a different kind of biker, a cyclist, also enjoying the wind on my face but not at such speed.

Cycling certainly is fantastic exercise, but the saddles are far too small! 😵 Give me a motorcycle or a horse any day!

Congrats on the e-book. Very productive winter you had there, and it must be an amazing feeling. All that hard work paid off 🙂 That is a sweet looking Ducati. Good to hear you had a lovely ride after being cooped up so long, and hope you saw some lovely sights and it was a smooth ride all the way and back. A change of scenery is good every now and then….and it doesn’t sound like age is getting in the way of riding for you 🙂
