This is Dennis my dragon-fly talisman. He’s carved in gold on a semi-precious jade-green totem stone, sent to me as a gift by my friend Joyce in Canada. He is a symbol of immortality and agility. I keep him in my pocket in hopes I too will become more agile and possibly even immortal. I’m starting to have slight doubts as to the strength of his magic because shortly after I received him I went on a holiday to Spain. I was particularly un-agile while trying to get out of the sea, fell over, got surged on by a huge wave and temporarily lost my bikini bottoms! Not much hope then of immortality I’m thinking!
Time is precious. Roger is all about time. He was given to me by my friend who I’ve known for forty-six years. That’s a lot of time to know someone. A lot of sharing. Hundreds of hours of friendship, zillions of minutes of talking about life and the universe.
I think of my friend every time I twist Roger around. Four minutes for a boiled egg, thirty-five minutes for a Bakewell tart.
He’s got a nice solid tick-tick-tick, Roger has.
There is much to write about time.
