A Thank-You and a free Badge
Just a quick post to thank all those who commented on my previous post. It was a comfort to know I’m not the only one who has, along with daunting levels of blogging traffic, felt honoured but uncomfortable about awards, and chain posts like ‘You’ve been Tagged’. I didn’t know that http://kardzbykris.wordpress.com/about-those-awards/ had already posted something similar, and offered badges declining awards to anyone who would like one. Thanks Kris for getting in touch.
Being as I just love having an excuse to create a little animation I decided to make my own badge. Please feel free to use it if you want to.

i actually updated my
awardspage to include it.there are actually some bloggers who are able to do it all – blog creatively and participate in the awards. so kudos to them! this is not at all a campaign about ‘i hate awards’, as i am sure you would agree.
thought it might be good to share one more thought here. in a reply to another blogger who had some mixed feelings about awards as well, i suggested to have the courage to receive them with joy or decline them with thankfulness – and enjoy your blog either way!!
Happy Blogging indeed 🙂

Excellent points! My post was not in any way intended to criticize awards. Some bloggers, as you said, are able to do it all. We have to blog the way we feel best – live and let live. 🙂

Ah, finally a kindred spirit – I thought I was all alone in my reluctance to accept awards. Thank you for your reassurance!

Me, too, say thank you –because someone thought of me in a lovely way– and leave it at that. No need to explain anything.

We’re all different and have to decide what’s right for us. Awards are great fun if you can make time for them and do your own creative stuff too. Some can and some can’t! 🙂

I kind of feel the same way but only because the award rules simply require too much — Something about me from A to Z, nominate 15 other bloggers, etc. Just too daunting.

I agree, and for the couple of awards I took part in I wondered how well those 15 chosen bloggers would feel about having to do the same thing! 🙂

I couldn’t agree more. I’m at the Blogging Traffic Block stage just now, and have resolved to automatically empty my inbox first thing every morning until such time that I re-establish a pattern of writing first. And when the time comes, when I feel I’ve paid my dues to support the other new bloggers out there I’ll be right back here Jude, to ask for a copy of your animated Awards Declined widget:)

I’m glad I did this post, it does seem to have confirmed that many bloggers feel the same way. I subscribe to quite a few blogs, and love to keep up with new posts, but there is just so much time in a day. If I’m in the process of writing something I check out very few posts. Please grab the Awards Declined badge whenever you want! 🙂

You’re right, lot course, to maintain your focus on what you’re doing, with the socialising an enjoyable secondary activity when you have time. Thanks for the invitation – I’ll grab the badge (I figure I have a few more to submit to!) and link to your blog, so you know I’ve taken it, and give others a chance to read what you had to say. 🙂

The first award I got I was really pleased. But it was quite a lot of work. Then I got another… After that I couldn’t keep up, though I did respond to the Reader Award as I thought that was a new twist. It is good to get one award, but there are so many and it becomes a chore not a pleasure. Limited time means people pass them to the same people a lot of the time. I did take the first and second ones seriously and sought out new blogs. That was good. I found some great people. But we’re back to time again. I love it when someone tells me they like what I post. I don’t need an award, so followed others’ examples and have an award free badge on my page.

This is great. I haven’t received any award but since these graphics allow me to decline without offending I am going to put one on my blog. The difficult part is choosing which one to use as they are all lovely. Thank you.

I’ve decided to use your graphic but I’m a beginner. How do I put it in my blog?

So glad you like the badge!
To put it on your blog you need to right click on it and click ‘save image as’ – which will download it to your pc. Then go to the dashboard on your blog and go to Media – Add New. Then upload the picture from your pc. The picture should appear in your ‘Media Library’. When it’s in there you go back to your dashboard and click Appearance – Widgets. Grab the widget that says ‘Image’ and place it in one of your widget areas (different blog themes have different options as to where you can put things as you probably know). You should then have a little window open up which allows you to add various bits of info. All you really need is to fill in the box that says ‘Image URL’ To do this you must go back to your Media Library to the picture and click the edit option underneath it. This opens a few boxes including one that says ‘File URL’ Copy that File URL and then paste it into the ‘Image URL’ box.
I hope I’ve explained this so you can understand it! If not then go to WordPress Support and type ‘image widget’ in the search box. I found out how to do it all through the support site. Good Luck! 🙂

I’m not into awards either, For now I’m saving them all on the shelf of my digital fireplace. And, regarding your last post on this subject: currently I have 240 unread messages in my inbox about new posts from bloggers (I was away on holidays for a feew days and got behind).
